Kindergarten Enhancement
Because each student has different experiences and developmental needs, we offer an opportunity on alternate days from 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM for students to practice their learning and skills. This is teacher-recommended and transportation is not provided by the district. Students who have participated in the past have experienced tremendous success. This program’s membership is fluid -students phase in and out as shown by their needs. Those who participate should be prepared to make a commitment to regular attendance. Regular attendance is an essential component of success.
Reading Recovery
Reading Recovery is a highly effective short-term program of one-to-one tutoring for first-grade students who need extra support and is used as a supplement to good classroom teaching. The goal is to improve independent reading and writing performance to a level at or above the average in the regular classroom.

Stevenson Language Skills
No single instructional technique can solve all learning problems. Therefore, the Stevenson Program weaves together a variety of methodologies to improve students' decoding, encoding, and comprehension. The program works from a base of structured phonics and presents phonetic elements in a unique sequence. The program teaches both sound/symbol correspondence and linguistic structures with multi-sensory techniques. Stevenson incorporates specific phonemic awareness exercises, beginning in the earliest lessons. Direct instruction is also applied consistently. Stevenson uses mnemonics (pronounced nee-mon-iks) to enhance all of these strategies. Mnemonics is a term for memory aids. In the July/August 1997 edition of Teaching Exceptional Children, researchers summarized the results of 18 types of interventions in special education. Mnemonic instruction was considered the most effective of these interventions. Using methodologies such as these allows Stevenson to accommodate a variety of common learning problems.
Wilson Reading System
The Wilson Reading System is the flagship program of Wilson Language Training and the foundation of all other Wilson programs. This system is a highly structured remedial program that directly teaches the structure of the language to students who have been unable to learn with other teaching strategies or who may require multisensory language instruction. This step-by-step program gives our teachers the tools and confidence they need to work with even the most challenged reader.
The Wilson Reading System is a researched-based program that provides a systematic and cumulative approach to teaching decoding, encoding, and oral reading fluency. It boasts one of the most extensive collections of controlled and decodable text for students in elementary, middle, and high school, as well as adults.
Wilson Fundations
Wilson Fundations for K-3 is a phonological/phonemic awareness, phonics, and spelling program. Rather than completely replace core curriculum, Fundations provides researched strategies that complement installed programs to serve the needs of all students. Fundations lessons focus on carefully sequenced skills that include print knowledge, alphabet awareness, phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, decoding, fluency, and spelling. Fundations is recommended as part of a total literacy solution.
Title 1 Reading
The Title 1 program provides extra reading support to children in kindergarten through third grade. The Title 1 program assists with guided reading in the kindergarten classroom and provides small group instruction for grades 2 and 3. The focus of instruction begins with learning how to read effectively and fluently and progresses to building comprehension skills.
